Im Gegensatz zu seinem älteren Bruder Lars ist Michael ein erfahrener Reiter mit Turniererfahrung. Er ist im Springen wie auf der Dressur bis Klasse S erfolgreich.

Michael ist ein ambitionierter und ehrgeiziger Turnierreiter. Freizeitreiten ist ihm unverständlich, für ihn ist der sportliche Erfolg unerlässlich für ein erfülltes Reiterleben. Seine Lieblingspferde sind stets die, die mit genauso viel Feuereifer bei der Sache sind wie er. Obwohl Leiter eines Ponyhofes, reitet er selbst nur Warmblüter und besitztauf Kleemann "nebenbei" eine ausgewählte Truppe Sportpferde.
