Im Umgang ist Duke einerseits ruhig, andererseits kann er aber auch ein echtes Nervenbündel werden. Aufgedreht wie er dann ist, kommen Hengstmanieren vom Feinsten zum Vorschein. Da er aber nicht von 0 auf 100 aufdreht, sondern sich langsam hinein steigert, kann man sich gut darauf vorbereiten, oder wenn man ihn ein wenig besser kennt auch direkt davon abhalten sich eben aufzuregen. Seine Bewegungen sind stets elegant und federnd, er arbeitet toll mit und zeigt sich von seiner guten Seite.
"Manchmal braucht es ein wenig Motivationshilfe um ihn in Schwung zu bekommen, doch dann ist er ein Selbstläufer. Problemlos lässt sich das erlernte abrufen und Neues speichert er auch schnell ab."
Bei anderen Pferden ist Duke in der Regel verträglich und aufgeschlossen, wie gesagt gibt es aber Momente, in denen das Temperament mit ihm durchgeht und dann rauft er sich auch schon mal mit seinen Artgenossen oder versucht eben zu der angebeteten Stute zu kommen, was ihm im Optimalfall natürlich nicht gelingt. Der Versuch Duke nur aufbocken zu lassen und keinen Natursprung anzubieten ist fehlgeschlagen, da dass Pony einfach nicht auf den Dummy geht.
