Dawn ist eine sehr genügsame Stute. An ihr erkennt man, was in einem Pferdeleben wirklich wichtig ist - Gras, andere Pferde, das Leben unterm freien Himmel. Die Stute genießt ihr Offenstalldasein, hat noch nicht einen Huf in den Unterstand gestellt und ignoriert Schnee, Regen und Hitze. Auch ansonsten ist Dawn durch und durch Pferd. Dabei ist es ihr egal ob sie mit Menschen oder Tieren zu tun hat - sie verlangt eine geklärte Rangordnung. Wenn der Mensch nicht die Führung übernimmt, dann macht sie das eben. Da kann es mit Dawn dann auch mal brenzlig werden aber eigentlich macht sie so unmissverständlich deutlich, wer der Boss ist, dass man erstmal an diesem Problem arbeitet, anstatt was anderes zu machen. Ist die Rangordnung aber einmal geklärt - sei es direkt am Anfang oder nach ersten Startschwierigkeiten, dann ist Dawn absolut folgsam und aufmerksam.
Eine erstaunliche Veränderung geht in Dawn vor, wenn sie mit Kindern zu tun hat. Denn hier greift der "Fohlenschutz". Kinder genießen bei Dawn absolute Narrenfreiheit, und das merken sie auch schnell. Da wird gestreichelt, gepätschelt und geknuddelt. Dawn lässt es seelenruhig mit sich machen. Aber wehe ein Erwachsener der sich noch nicht als Chef bewiesen hat, kommt auf solche Ideen. Da kann Dawn durchaus sehr ungemütlich werden.
Unterm Sattel ist es genauso. Ist die Rangordnung geklärt, ist Dawn stets bemüht alle Aufgaben zu erledigen und würde keinen Befehl anzweifeln. Ist die Rangordnung nicht geklärt, wird das Training zu einer einzigen Gurkerei und Dawn läuft wie eine schielende Ente.
Und das, obwohl die junge Stute eigentlich ausgesprochen schöne und schwungvolle Gangarten hat. Diese, gemischt mit ihrem Arbeitswillen, machen sie zu einem guten Dressurpferd. Aber auch vor der Kutsche, kann Dawn überzeugen da sie sensibel ist und auf feinste Hilfen reagiert.
