Der pechschwarze Jálfadur ist ein absolut verträgliches Pferd. Im Alltag macht er gerne Mist, weiß aber wann Schluss ist und auch wenn er einen unterm Sattel manchmal veräppelt, ist er wenns darauf ankommt immer voll dabei. Temperamentsmäßig geht er eher nach seinem Vater und ist relativ faul, immer etwas triebig und bemüht nicht zu viel machen zu müssen. Jedoch ist er kein Pferd das Hilfen ignoriert und wenn man die Befehle klar und ausdrücklich gibt, wird Jalfadur sie immer befolgen.
Er ist ein schlechter Springer, der oft verweigert oder kurzm vorm Hindernis Gangsalat fabriziert. Daher springen wir ihn wenig und auch die Trabstangen an der Longe sind für ihn eine echte Herausforderrung. Im Ausgleich dafür ist er aber ein hervoragender Tölter, manchmal hat er leichte Taktprobleme im Trab, aber im Tölt würde ihn das nie passieren. Er ist ein Pferd, das im Gelände auch von selbst töltet und macht damit seinem Reiter einfach nur viel Spaß. Er geht entspannt und locker in jedem Tempo und eignet sich auch, um unerfahrenen Reitern die Gangreiterei näher zu bringen.
Mit anderen Pferden ist er etwas eigen. Er sieht erstmal jeden als Rivalen, sei es Hengst oder Wallach, und selbst Stuten werden, wenn sie nicht gerade rossig sind, oft angegiftet. Kennt er die Pferde aber, ist er unkompliziert und geht auch auf Provokationen nicht ein. Da geht er sehr nach seinem Vater, der im heimischen Stall ebenfalls nie gezickt hat. Wir vermuten aber das Jalfadur, eben wie sein Vater Blakur, auf Turnieren etwas schwieriger zu händeln sein wird.
