ls wir Frühlingsanfang zu Besuch im Hause Cullver waren und die Stutenherde der Farm betrachteten, fiel uns unter anderem diese schicke New Forest Pony Stute auf. Calliope, wie sie genannt wird, ist eine Ponystute mit gutem Fundament, typgerecht und robust. Sie steht nun seit einigen Wochen bei uns und hat sich sehr gut eingelebt. Die kleine Weiße hat eine enorme Sprungkraft, wie sich schnell herausstellte. Trotz ihrer Größe federt Calliope über jedes Hindernis hinweg, das man ihr in den Weg stetzt. Sie hat zudem ein freundliches Wesen, guckt immer neugierig und ist damit der Liebling der Kinder. Gewisser Maßen wohl auch deshalb weil sie sich selbst manchmal wie ein kleines Fohlen benimmt. Auf der Weide etwa, buckelt sie und rennt, was das Zeug hält, als wäre sie nach drei Monaten zum ersten Mal wieder draußen. Ein lustiges Spektakel, das jedem ein Lächeln ins Gesicht treibt, der die kleine Stute beobachtet. Natürlich liebt Calliope, wie es sich eben gerade für einen Schimmel gehört, feuchte Erde und nasse Wiesen. Die Schimmelstute findet immer einen geeigneten Ort zum wälzen, bis ihr Fell von einer dünnen, dunkelbraunen Schicht überzogen ist. Sie ist eben ein richtiges Bergpony, das diesen Ruf manchmal eindeutig zu ernst nimmt.
