Skýr ist ein sehr selbstbewusster Hengst, der in Island bereits als Deckhengst eingesetzt wurde. Er ist ein sehr unabhängiges Pferd, das keine Zuwendung bräuchte, um zurecht zu kommen. Zwar genießt er es gekrault zu werden, kommt dafür aber nicht bewusst zum Weidezaun gelaufen.
Obwohl er seine Freiheit genießt, macht er sich auch unter dem Sattel sehr gut. Außerhalb der Decksaison war Skýr eines der wenigeren Pferde, das bei seinem Züchter am Hof stand und für den Sport eingesetzt wurde. Seine Gänge gelten als besonders klar und fein.
Zwar hat der Fuchshengst einen eigenen Kopf, aber er ist sehr kompromissbereit und freut sich über eine gelingende Zusammenarbeit. Er probiert sehr gerne neue Dinge aus und will eigentlich auch immer der Erste sein, der etwas machen darf.
Manchmal tut er sich etwas schwer in der Gegenwart anderer Pferde zu arbeiten, aber das ist mit Sicherheit auch nur eine Sache der Gewöhnung. Seine Gänge lassen sich alle zuverlässig abrufen und bestechen durch ihre schwungvolle Art mit viel Go.
Skýr ist zudem ein Hengst, der sich besonders farblich, aber auch charakterlich, stark an seine Nachkommen weiter gibt.
