Poldi ist ein Humbug-Sohn, wie wir ihn uns nicht besser erträumen hätten können. Er hat die grundehrliche Art seines Vaters und die Anhänglichkeit seiner Mutter geerbt und ist durch und durch ein Spiegel seines Menschen. Jeder Neuigkeit begegnet er mit gespitzten Ohren und untersucht alles mit Nase, Zähnen, Zunge oder Hufen, das nicht niet- und nagelfest ist. Furcht kennt er keine, auch wenn er sich doch hin und wieder erschreckt, wenn er zu vertieft in eine Sache war, um eine andere zu bemerken. Nach einem großen Satz ist der Schrecken aber für ihn sehr schnell wieder vorbei und meist möchte er den Auslöser dann lieber genauer untersuchen. Vorsicht ist für ihn ein Fremdwort und manchmal muss man ihn davor bewahren, kopfüber ins Unglück zu stürzen. Manchmal zweifeln wir ein wenig an seiner Intelligenz, etwa wenn er zum wiederholten Male an den Stromzaun kommt, dann verkehrt sich das aber oft wieder ins Gegenteil, wenn er eine Schwachstelle im Zaun gefunden hat. Und dann sind wir doch wieder bei den Zweifeln angekommen, wenn er ganz aufgelöst ist, weil er selbst den Weg nicht zurückfindet.
Mit Poldi scheint es, als hätten wir alles richtig gemacht. Seit seinem ersten Lebenstag erkundet er mit Freuden die Welt und stellt sie ebenso auf den Kopf. Sein starker Charakter würde ungeübte Reiter vermutlich zur Verzweiflung bringen, aber für einen Profi ist er eine Herausforderung und eine Freude. Poldi ist niemals aggressiv, auch nicht beim Spielen mit anderen - kleineren - Fohlen, aber er testet seine Grenzen und auch wenn er nicht der dominanteste Hengst im Stall ist, möchte er doch wie ein Hengst behandelt werden. Es braucht ein wenig Fingerspitzengefühl und ausreichend Durchsetzungsvermögen, um mit dem Humbug-Sohn klarzukommen, aber dafür belohnt er seinen Menschen mit viel Fleiß, Ehrgeiz und regelmäßigen Schmusestunden.

Optisch ist Poldi eine gute Kombination aus seinen Eltern. Er ist etwas kompakter als sein Vater es noch als Fohlen war und bekam von seiner Mutter viel Adel vererbt. Väterlicherseits scheint sich neben der Farbe auch der kräftige Halsaufsatz vererbt zu haben - und schließlich lassen die trockenen Gliedmaßen auf seinen hohen Blutanteil schließen, auch wenn er etwas wuchtiger erscheint, als es bei der Anpaarung zu vermuten war. Seinen Übungen in der Luftakrobatik scheint seine Masse aber keinen Abbruch zu tun und verglichen mit manchen unserer Dressurpferden ist er durchaus sehr leicht gebaut.

Schon von klein auf zeigte Poldi drei sehr klar voneinander getrennte Gangarten mit klarem Takt, der allerdings schnell nachlässt, wenn er müde wird. Am liebsten ist ihm natürlich der Galopp, wie es für ein Vielseitigkeitspferd gehört. Auf den Schritt vergisst er bei aller Aufregung manchmal, weshalb man ihn ein wenig hervorkitzeln muss. Mit einem sehr aktiven Hinterbein und ausreichend Schulterfreiheit macht er auch im Trab eine gute Figur, auch wenn er sich nicht zum imposanten Vorhandstrampeln eignet. Dafür kann er sich aufgrund seines kompakten Baus gut setzen und abdrücken. Dressurwertungen wird er eher selten gewinnen, aber in der Vielseitigkeit sich dafür wie zuhause fühlen.
