Cipriano – the fiery black one is Enéas’ declared favorite. The black stallion is bred by Alfonso and has spent his entire life at our barn, which means, that he has grown up together with Enéas, who had him under saddle the first time for example. The young trainer was not as experienced as he is now, especially concerning the Doma Vaquera disciplines, which is the reason why he first taught Cipriano the English dressage and had a huge success with that. Cipriano is as Tressangre not really the typical dressage horse, because he is way too feisty and vivacious, but his affection to learning makes it possible to teach even the temperamental stallion how to behave in classic dressage.
Cipriano is a sly old dog and always moving in search of an activity. He actually is mostly where you can least need him right now. Yes, this is basically who Cipriano is. Honestly, sometimes his mood decides whether we have a great or a horrible day. If he has a good day, he is nearly unbearable with his little jokes, break outs and the always-in-move thing. Of course he entertains a lot with this, but sometimes it is just annoying. Nevertheless would no one of us want to miss this guy, although – or maybe even because – he can drive you crazy sometimes.
Well, it has to be said, that this behavior, how dominant and jittery he may be, always will be gone as soon as he has got to work. Cipriano wants to be encouraged and stipulated, therefore he especially needs to get himself tired in a physical and mental way – if possible every day. This is mostly the reason why our fiery Black with a lot of stamina learns in such a fast and easy way. Once in a while he seems to be overwhelmed by his own strength and one could reach the conclusion that he is – thank god! – not aware of his own strength most of the time. We experienced that it is the best way to get him tired, if you take him out on the campo and let him work with the cattles. Cipriano, although doing a great job in dressage, seems to have a lot of fun in cattle work and acts indepently if his rider supports him. The stallion is a real worker, he loves to do his work and nothing makes him happier than a satisfied rider. His breed characteristic support this temper even more, because he is quick, agile and clever. Not to mention his bravery. We have never seen Cipriano back up from a bull and I am afraid, we won’t see him anytime. He learned how to work with his rider and reacts to very light commands. This is incredibly important especially if there is a situation, in which it is mandatory to still listen to his rider, which he always does.
At the barn, however, Cipriano is as exhausting as expected, wherefore we mostly let him jump over the meadows with our youngstock or the other stallions, who are compatible with him. If he stands on the meadows, he lives there day and night and has the possibility to exhaust himself however and whenever he wants. Another characteristic of Cipriano is by the way his compatible behavior when comes to live with other stallions or gelding. We are nearly able to put him together on the field with every stallion living at our barn, but he definitely prefers Cayetano, who seems to be his buddy.
His friendly and compatible behavior unfortunately ends, if there are mares near, because he then is a true show-off and wants to impress the ladies by his impetious movements and moves. Nevertheless you have to differ between this situation with him under saddle or in-hand, because if he is working under saddle, he won’t break his stream of concentration. But if he is in-hand, however, he will be a slightly ticking time bomb, which might be the result of his very full-blooded ancestors.
Despite of, or either because of, all these small idiosyncrasies we truly love our little black devil. He is currently competing in dressage again, although Enéas still teaches him in Doma Vaquera. But the versatility of Cipriano makes it possible to be ridden either way without any problems. He is learning day by day and we really admire the work his rider already has achieved with him.
