Ilar geht offen auf jeden zu und lässt sich bekuscheln und verhätscheln, dabei sollte man aber lieber an Leckereien sparen, denn die Rappin kann aufdringlich werden, sobald sie Futter erkannt hat. Sie gehört zu denen, die Gras immer vorziehen, egal wie das Wetter aussieht oder wo andere Pferde sich hin bewegen. Ilar ist in dem Sinne sehr selbstständig, sie braucht nicht dringend andere Pferde um sich herum, hat aber auch nichts gegen Gesellschaft. Wenn sie nicht frisst, läuft sie mal herum und beobachtet Menschen vom Zaun aus. Man sollte sich vor ihr in Acht nehmen, denn sie weiß, wie sie an Jackentaschen kommt und Putzkästen öffnet, auch Knoten sind für sie eher selten ein Problem.
Unterm Sattel geht sie gerne munter voran, immer forsch, kaum zu bremsen, stürzt sie sich auch mal in Situationen, die sie nicht kennt. Oft muss man aufpassen, denn sie schaltet auch schon mal schnell von Dressur auf Springen, von Schrittrunde auf Ausdauertraining oder von Planschen auf ein Querfeldein-Abenteuer. Wer dabei im Sattel sitzt, ihr ihr herzlich egal, man sollte nur drauf achten, dass man sich durchzusetzen weiß, wenn sie loslegt, denn Reitanfänger haben keinen Schneid, wenn sie sich überlegt, dass der beste Weg jetzt eben durch den Busch führt.
