Sterling kennt man als einen erfolgorientierten Haflinger. Sobald er merkt, dass die Arbeit sich für ihn lohnt, ist er mit Elan und voller Freude dabei. Hat er das Gefühl nicht, setzt er seinen Ponydickkopf auf und stellt sich stur. Dennoch ist er ein sehr leistungswilliger Hengst, der eben nur den nötigen Anreiz braucht, manchmal reicht dazu sogar einfach eine Möhre. Ist Sterling überfordert oder unausgelastet, wirkt er sehr nörgelig, macht Unsinn, benimmt sich nicht und geht dem Reiter tierisch auf die Nerven. Das kann man jedoch mit genügend Aufmerksamkeit und Aufgaben für den Hengst schnell wieder in den Griff bekommen.
